Is Chievo’s Salernitana-Loanee Sofian Kiyine Heading to Lazio?

Salernitana midfielder Sofian Kiyine, who is currently on-loan from Chievo Verona has caught the eye of club owner Claudio Lotito. The Belgian born Moroccan international has become a regular feature of the Salernitana squad scoring two goals and assisting 2 others in 1102 minutes over 17 games. However at €2 million, the option to buy is beyond the Serie B outfit’s resources prompting some to speculate that Kiyine may follow in the footsteps of Luiz Felipe. The Brazilian defender, who is was also born in 1997, was purchased by Lotito and spent a short spell at Salernitana before carving out a place for himself in Lazio’s starting 11.

The path from Salernitana to Lazio is already a well-worn one with Thomas Strakosha and a number of other Lazio players having made the trip to and from Salerno at various stages in their career. It may become more heavily traveled if incoming Serie A president Gaetano Miccichè is successful in establishing the use of development squads or “farm teams” in Serie B linked to Serie A clubs.

Sofian Kiyine signed for Chievo from Standard Leige for an undisclosed fee back in 2015. He spent two years with Chievo Verona’s U19’s before being loaned out to Salernitana for this season. Kiyine has a current market value of €400k.

Lazio have also expressed interest in Miguel Araujo, Kamil Glik and Holger Badstuber this season.
