Transfer Talk: Lazio Chasing Iranian Forward Sardar Azmoun

Following Lazio’s embarrassing exit at the hands of Salzburg, it is clear that the biancoceleste need to strengthen their attack-force, as well as their defence. Felipe Caicedo has not impressed and Immobile is struggling to cope on his own; worsened by the fact that clubs have expressed an interest to sign Immobile in the summer. According to reports in Italy, Igli Tare is already working to sign an addition. One of the names mentioned is Sardar Azmoun, a 23-year-old Iranian striker currently playing for Rubin Kazan in the Russian Premier League.

In his 9 starts as a striker this season, Azmoun has scored twice and assisted three, picking up an average rating of 7.14 (according to whoscored.com). In his last 5 games, including an international clash between Iran and Algeria, the forward has scored three and assisted three; fine form that has captured the attention of Igli Tare.

Azmoun signed for Kazan initially in 2013 from Iranian club Sepahan FC on a free transfer. He spent 2 years at Kazan before spending two years out on loan at Rostov. He eventually signed for Rostov for a fee of around €2.3 million, where he spent just one season before moving back to Kazan on a free transfer. According to TransferMarkt, Azmoun has a current market value of €9 million.

Lazio were reportedly close to securing the Iranian’s signature last summer, so it is thought that he will remain the number #1 attacking target for this summer.

Many Lazio fans would arguably prefer a bigger name signing to serve as Immobile’s replacement. Previous reports have suggested Manolo Gabbiadini.
