Stefan De Vrij: Should he play or should he be benched?

The biggest question regarding Simone Inzaghi’s  pre-game decisions is whether or not he should play defender Stefan de Vrij against Inter.

De Vrij is said to be joining the Nerazzurri in the summer on a free transfer, therefore, will his interest possibly rest with the team on the other side of the pitch?

The latest reports is that Stefan De Vrij has informed Inzaghi and the players Immobile, Radu, Lulic, Leiva and Parolo during a meeting, that he sees the final game against inter as a highly important match for Lazio that he therefore wants to play. It is said that Inzaghi trusts De Vrij to be a professional until the end but is it as simple as that?

The game itself is so decisive against Inter for the Champions League spot that every misstep or error will be analyzed as “what if” and “what about”. If Lazio lose the game due to a De Vrij error, what would be the outcome?

It is also important to note that De Vrij apparently has ‘chosen to leave Lazio’ – should that also mean that the players team spirit should step away from a natural place in the starting eleven to a player that actually wants to stay?

If De Vrij does not play on Sunday, the alternatives in the middle would be Wallace or Luiz Felipe: an error-prone option versus an inexperienced one.

Stefan de Vrij is without a doubt the best defender Lazio has, but is he the best option?
