The group is to many, considered as the biggest reason and force behind Lazio’s success this season.
Unhappy players like Lucas Biglia and Keita Baldé left Lazio over the previous summer to AC Milan and Monaco respectively, after stranded contract talks. Biglia’s case, was that he wanted to win trophies in a big spending Milan team and in Keita’s case, he wanted to get the respect that he thought he deserved, including the playing time he and his agent was not given enough of for his quality.
Lucas Biglia failed as a captain during his time at Lazio to step up in important games and rally the troops when needed. The Argentine midfielder hasn’t either really shown himself worth the price tag since the move to the promised land in Milan. Keita Baldé on the other hand is still mostly on the bench, now in Monaco.
In their place Lazio this season has been a united group with a real captain in Senad Lulic and a new midfield boss in Lucas Leiva. Players that always give their all for the shirt and the supporters: Lucas Leiva has in short time become a fan favorite at Lazio in a way that Biglia never got close to.
Cittaceleste now reports that the team captain Senad Lulic has asked Lazio’s management to divide the possible bonus (4 million euros) of a Champions League qualification equally amongst the squad and the staff around them, which then for example should also include the equipment managers.
Intially it was a bonus based on appearances but at the will of the captain Lulic as well as Immobile and Parolo it’s now to be shared equal. In the same way the success has been achieved, together and equally as a team. Immobile might be the top scorer but he’s been backed up by the team at all times. Now he is said to be on the pitch again against Inter.
All this should count for something morally on Sunday.
