After a humiliating 3-2 defeat at home to Inter Milan, which saw Lazio narrowly fail to achieve Champions League football, there is no doubt that the team must be strengthened. Striker and centre-back are often considered top priorities, yet with veteran defender Dusan Basta supposedly on his way out, the latest reports are suggesting that the Biancoceleste will sign an equally experienced player in Juventus’ Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Lichtsteiner, now 34, signed for Juventus from Lazio for €10 million back in 2011, and after seven years with the Turin club, he is set to leave as his contract expires at the end of the season. Lazio made nearly €9 million in profit on Lichtsteiner after he signed from Lille for just €1.5 million in 2008.

He is versatile; deployable as a RB, RWB or RM – allowing him to fit perfectly in the 3-5-1-1 system that Simone Inzaghi has used at Lazio.

After an impressive tenure with Juventus, starring in over 250 games, scoring 15 times, and winning 7 Scudetto’s, 3 Supercoppa trophies, and 4 Coppa Italia wins. Lichtsteiner was also named as Swiss Footballer of the Year in 2015, as well as winning the 2008/09 Coppa Italia with Lazio.
