Report: Lazio target Ghanian Sassuolo midfielder Alfred Duncan

As Lazio’s hunt for a Milinkovic-Savic replacement heats up, one of the latest names to be suggested by CalcioMercato is Sassuolo and Ghana midfielder Alfred Duncan. Duncan, 25, initially came through the youth system at Inter Milan, having signed for the club at the age of 17 in 2010.

After four years at Inter, making just 3 Serie A appearances, Duncan was sold to Sampdoria for €3 million in January 2015. In the following July, he made the switch to Sassuolo on loan, completing a permanent move at the end of the 15/16 season; for around €6 million.

This season, Alfred Duncan has started 23 games from centre-midfield in Serie A, with 3 substitute appearances. He has picked up just two assists and failed to score, yet achieves around 1.5 tackles, 1.4 dribbles and 1.3 key passes per game.

His strengths lie within his crossing and passing, easily able to play killer balls around the field. Additionally, he is known for his strength, able to hold up play and shield the ball with his physical presence. He often makes simple mistakes when passing but is very creative and is able to place risky balls up the field for his side’s attackers.

TransferMarkt currently value Alfred Duncan at around €9 million and it is thought that Lazio should be able to secure his services for a fee in the region of €10-12 million. At just 25, he has potential to grow too, yet compared to names like Mateo Kovacic, it is thought that Lazio should be aiming for a slightly higher calibre of player to replace one of their star men.
