Rumours over the past few weeks that Lazio’s youth prospect Alessio Miceli could be departing the club have come true today as we can report that the Italian midfielder will not be a Lazio player come-September. Despite trying to sign the 18-year-old to a professional contract, the biancoceleste have failed and now the prospect will evaluate his other options. Cagliari have emerged as favourites for his signature, yet a number of other Serie A clubs appear to be in the running.
Alessio Miceli has been a part of Lazio’s youth ranks since the age of 8 in 2007. In his time in the academy, he developed a versatile set of positions, able to play at centre-back, attacking-midfield and centre-midfield. Earlier this season, Miceli made his debut for the Lazio first team, playing for four minutes against Vitesse and 55 minutes against Zulte-Waregem in the Europa League group stage.
This season in the Primavera, which saw Lazio’s boys get relegated, Miceli made 13 appearances, scoring twice. By no means a brilliant season for the young man, yet it was down to the Primavera failures which you can find out more about in our detailed feature here.
