Report: Marcos Acuña on Lazio’s Radar

The long list of possible transfers continues to grow for the Biancocelesti. Reports suggest that Lazio are looking to strengthen their midfield, if the likes of Sergej Milinković-Savić and Felipe Anderson leave. Today’s rumours bring the idea of Sporting Lisbon’s 26-year-old Marcos Acuña to the table.

It has been reported that the midfielder has had his contract terminated following an incident with the Sporting Lisbon Ultras after they missed out on a UEFA Champions League qualification. Acuña played 49 matches this year for the Portuguese side, including 5 Champions League fixtures and 6 Europa League fixtures, and the Argentinian International had 6 goals and 9 assists in his time with Sporting. He signed for Sporting in July 2017 from Argentine club Racing Club, for a fee of around €10M.

Acuña would be a versatile option for Lazio: the attacking midfielder also had stints in the CDM role, as well as on the wing. A player who can possibly replace Felipe Anderson if the Brazilian does leave Rome as rumours suggest. The latest reports indicate that Felipe could be headed to Chelsea, with the London side having been interested in him for several years now.

Acuña was also named to Argentina’s 23 man squad for the 2018 World Cup, he is looking for his 9th cap for Argentina after making his debut just over two years ago. According to ‘Calciomercato.it’, Lazio are very interested in the Argentine midfielder.
