Report: Martin Caceres to move to Spain?

Martin Caceres was Lazio’s only winter signing and it looked at first to be a clever move to strengthen the, often criticised, Lazio defence. The experienced and versatile Caceres had previously played with Juventus in the Serie A before, and begun his season with Hellas Verona this year, with the plan that he would switch to Lazio if everything worked out fine in Verona in January, and so he did.

Martin Caceres’ contract with Lazio was automatically renewed during the season, with one additional year due to the number of appearances for the Uruguayan defender. However, Caceres has played in a remarkably low amount of matches since his arrival, and was excluded from the two last games against Crotone and Inter. His agent Vincenzo Tropiano has recently been critical and has said that ‘Caceres would have made a difference on the field against Inter instead of Stefan de Vrij that didn’t want to play’.

Now Real Betis is said to have been making enquiries to Lazio for Caceres according to Sportal. The Uruguayan actually played in La Liga, with Betis’ city rivals Sevilla between 2008 and 2012 before joining Serie A Champions Juventus.

Possibly Caceres could be involved in a deal that takes Romanian defender Alin Tosca (this season on loan at Benevento) to Lazio, that has been rumoured as a potential backup to Stefan Radu…

Would you like Caceres to stay with Lazio? After being announced as part of the Uruguay World Cup squad in Russia next month, many Lazio fans hope he will start and put on some spectacular performances to persuade Lotito to keep him, and Inzaghi to give him another chance on the Lazio backline.
