Back in 2017, Lazio and Atalanta’s Argentinian winger Papu Gomez had reportedly agreed terms, but the club did not accept a transfer fee from President Claudio Lotito and the biancocelesti.
Today, reports have re-emerged around Gomez, surrounding his future at the Nerazzurri side – Simone Inzaghi has expressed his interest to sign the player once again
The Argentinian, number 10 of Atalanta, has already been tried for, by Sporting Director Igli Tare in the last summer transfer window, and the player seemed to be one step away from dressing in the colors of the sky. The Albanian executive also met Giuseppe Riso, the player’s attorney in Milan, but in the end nothing came out of the talks.
The biancocelesti, however, have not yet lost the desire to bring Papu Gomez to the Stadio Olimpico: Simone Inzaghi talked about him again in the Wednesday market conversation with the club.
Lazio seems to have decided to try again, as Il Messaggero explains, as last year he seemed the first objective – will this time the epilogue be different?
The 30-year-old managed a total of 44 appearances this season. Within it, he provided 9 goals and 12 assists throughout the Serie A TIM, Coppa Italia, and Europa League. A definite game changer and top class experienced player, it is seen by his 8 MOTM (Man of the Matches). He had the best rating on Atalanta’s squad this season, with a 7.65/10, and 81.9% pass success percentage.
A short player at 165 cm, his technical ability, pace, and awareness allow him to dominate the left flank in most matches.
Would you like to see Papu in Lazio’s starting 11 next season? Where would he play?
