Last week it was reported that Inzaghi had a meeting with the club, and stated he wanted Andrea Petagna as a reinforcement for the attack

With Lazio in desperate need of a back up striker after Felipe Caicedo failed to hit the ground running in Italy – registering only three goals and one assist in 22 Serie A appearances – Simone Inzaghi has set his sights on Atalanta’s Italian striker Andrea Petagna.

Inzaghi is said to “appreciate that the 22-year-old understands the complexities of Italian football” and “his ability to hold the ball up and send his teammates in on goal”.

This season Petagna played in 39 games scoring six goals while providing nine assists across all competitions. Given his age, playing style, and his experience in Italian football he would be an excellent backup to Immobile and could even mesh well with Immobile as his striking partner.

Atalanta have recently given Petagna a €10 million evaluation, which would certainly be in Lazio’s price range this summer.

Today Petagna’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, hinted at a move to Lazio

Riso spoke to RMC Sport saying “Andrea has had an important season, he has grown again, he has had a physical problem since November. I believe he will be the future of the National team. Lazio? We talk about many things, certainly has the market. He is very close to Atalanta and Gasperini, we’ll see what happens”.

Over the next few weeks we will see if Tare chooses to bring in the Italian international, or one of the other strikers linked with the Biancocelesti (Papu Gomez / Vincent Janssen / Paulo Henrique / Sardar Azmoun / Lucas Perez).
