Last week, reports suggested that Lazio’s pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler had ground to an extremely harsh halt. The player himself dismissed the rumours, stating that he was “very happy in Bergamo”. However, if the latest reports from CittaCeleste are to be believed, Lazio are still waiting in the wings for a chance to secure the 26-year-old’s signature.

Remo Freuler signed for Atalanta BC from FC Luzern in January 2016, for a fee of just €1.5 million. Now, Atalanta have set the asking price at €15 million; after the player had an impressive 17/18 season. Freuler played 46 times for Atalanta in all competitions, scoring six times and assisting another four goals.

Statistically, Freuler achieved an average-per-game of 1.3 aerials won, 1.3 shots, 1.4 key passes and a pass accuracy of 88%. The Swiss midfielder largely started as a central-midfielder this season yet his defensive and attacking aptitude allow him to be a more versatile asset.

Lazio will have to make a decision, no doubt influenced by the transfer saga of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, soon as to whether or not they pursue Freuler as a top target. The player does not necessarily want to leave Bergamo yet money talks and should Lazio meet Atalanta’s asking price, Freuler could easily become a Laziale.
