Alongside reports that Igli Tare is in Russia on Lazio duty to watch Celtic’s Belgian centre-back Dedryck Boyata, another name is also reportedly on the cards. Radiosei are reporting Lazio’s interest in Borussia M.gladbach defender Jannik Vestergaard.
Vestergaard, 25, is at the World Cup on international duty with Denmark and Tare could well be scouting the defender as he looks for additions to strengthen Simone Inzaghi’s squad. Lazio fans would undoubtedly love a centre-back of Vestergaard’s quality, as they seek an immediate replacement for outgoing Stefan de Vrij.
For M.gladbach in the 17/18 season, Vestergaard played 34 games in all competitions. On average, he won 1.8 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.2 blocks, 5 clearances and 5.7 long balls per game. His passing makes him a valuable asset and one similar to De Vrij, who was by all means a ‘ball-playing’ centre-back.
Vestergaard, however, will not come cheap. His current contract with the Bundesliga club expires in 2021 and TransferMarkt value the 25-year-old at €14 million. Lazio, therefore, would likely have to part with around €20 million to tempt the German side into negotiations.
