After news has come that Lazio are nearing a deal to bring Kosovo international Valon Berisha to the Stadio Olimpico from Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg; reports are now suggesting that Lazio may take a couple more players from a deflated Salzburg whilst they’re down. The latest names, according to Repubblica, central defensive-midfielder Xaver Schlager and centre-back Duje Caleta-Car.
Xaver Schlager is a 20-year-old Austrian who would likely cost the biancoceleste around €10 million; acting as a rotation option for Lucas Leiva, adding squad depth when the Brazilian gets tired – or when Inzaghi opts to rest him for Coppa/Europa League games. Schlager is versatile, however, and is competent at attacking-midfield, central-midfield and central-defensive-midfield; also starring twice as a left-midfielder for Salzburg in the 17/18 season.
Caleta-Car would similarly cost Lazio around €10 million and would provide added strength to Lazio’s defence; especially given the departure of Stefan de Vrij. He’s tall, strong and a far better option than the likes of Wallace and Bastos.
