Serie B side Lecce is having a very active transfer market, with the Giallorossi now very close to providing a new reinforcement for coach Fabio Liverani. Sporting director Mauro Meluso is one step away from closing a deal for Simone Palombi, the 1996 born striker of Lazio. The transfer would be a season long loan, with a redemption to purchase the player once the loan is complete next summer.

In the beginning of the month of June, we had reported that Lazio were trying to send Palombi on loan, or include him in part of a potential future transfer. If Lecce come to agree terms with Lotito, this could become true: the club wants him to get more first team playing time, and at Lazio for the upcoming season, they do not see it as an option.

In an interview around the same time, Palombi stated his intent to stay at Formello next season: “We often talk with the coach and with the club, we have faced each other in various moments of the season. Now we are all on vacation, then there will be plenty of time to decide the future. The withdrawal of Auronzo? It’s still early to say, we’ll talk about it after the holidays, for the moment I think about resting. My goal is to go to the retreat and stay another year – this is my intention. My contract expires in 2022.”
