With Patric and Dusan Basta expected to leave Lazio this summer, the new alternative to Adam Marusic on the right-flank could already be at Lazio – youngster Cristiano Lombardi. Lombardi is now with the rest of the squad at the summer camp at Auronzo di Cadore in order to show Inzaghi his worth. Recently he spoke to the Lazio Style Channel:
“I’ve always wanted to come back, I was very content in Rome, I consider it my second home. Last year at Benevento there were a lot of experiences. I’m definitely returning more mature and I have grown both as a player and as a person”.
“I have also learned a new role: I can play the wing-back role in midfield and I would like to do it here at Lazio, I would like to stay here. I have spoken a few times with the coach, but we have only talked about last season. We are on the second day of the ritiro, I want to show Inzaghi what I have learned in the role of wing-back, then we will talk and the coach will make his choices with maximum serenity. With Inzaghi, there is a good relationship, there will be no problems”.
Given Lombardi’s known pace, technique and work rate, maybe he is not a bad alternative at all, given that he is able to adapt to the tactical requirements. He also qualifies for the four needed homegrown youth products of Lazio in the coming squad registration.
