According to what has been reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport this morning, Papu Gomez is Lazio’s highest priority target after the departure of Felipe Anderson.
The reports suggest that although Inzaghi has identified Gomez as his man for the post-FA, there is some disagreement with the club hierarchy, with Claudio Lotito unwilling to spend the reported €15 million price-tag on an over 30-year-old player.
Furthermore, the player’s wage demands would likely be between €2 million and €2.5 million per season, which would make him one of Lazio’s highest earners. Lotito may be willing to authorise the purchase if the price of Gomez drops to €10 million and it is unclear as of yet as to how far the President will go to please his head coach.
There is the possibility of inserting a counter-part, or, as Lotito may wish, to pursue a different target altogether.
