Bastos: “Our squad is a great group, we are all in unity”

The third day of Lazio’s training camp in Auronzo di Cadore has come to an end and after this afternoon’s training session Bastos spoke with the Official Biancoceleste Radio. Here are the Angolan defender’s comments on various topics.

On the retreat: “Here the weather is great for working at your best, after the holidays, training here will do us good. I always try to work hard to improve myself and make myself ready when the coach calls me into action.”

On the team’s dynamics: “Our squad is a great group, we are all in unity. Many of us speak in Portuguese, but we are all very friends. Our team is a family, if someone is in trouble there is always the desire to help. I am happy with this group, where everyone becomes available.”

On Ronaldo and Immobile: “Ronaldo is the best player in the world, it is normal that we talk so much about his arrival in Italy. Immobile is very good and always manages to put defenders in difficulty.”

On the Laziali and his personal goals for the upcoming season: “The fans are very important for me and they help me a lot. Last year I did not expect to score 5 goals, I’m very happy especially because it’s not easy for a defender. In the next season I hope to score even more.”

Since arriving from FC Rostov for €5 million in 2016 Bastos has been a valuable squad player for Lazio. Bastos made 28 appearances for the Biancoceleste last season but was seldom used in the second half of the season. The 27-year-old will be looking to impress manager Simone Inzaghi over the coming weeks and earn back the Italian’s trust going into this season.
