According to Il Messaggero, Franco Damián Vázquez, Maximiliano Eduardo Meza and Gonzalo Nicolás Martínez are all on Lazio’s radar for potential alternatives to Papu Gomez if a deal is unable to be agreed upon with Atalanta and/or the player.
Reports state Franco Vazquez is yet to settle down in Spain with Sevilla and he could be on the move: a return to Serie A is a possibility as Lazio are open to the Ital-Argentine. Vazquez appeared in 44 games last season for Sevilla scoring 5 goals and adding 7 assists and would be a good addition for Lazio, not costing a EU spot for the biancocelesti.
Another name that seems to looming around Lazio the last few weeks is Argentine international Maxi Meza and Gonzalo Nicolas Martínez. Both have been linked with a move to Lazio as a replacement for Anderson: Meza who appeared in 4 games at this years World Cup did not have a goal or an assist; he also appeared in 19 games for Independiente in the Primera División last season netting 3 goals and adding 4 assists. As for Martínez, he was not called up by Argentina for the World Cup, but he did appear in 25 games last season for River Plate with similar numbers to Meza – 7 goals and 3 assists.
The two Argentine’s in my opinion would not adapt well in Serie A – I see one of, or both of them, ending up similar to what Mauro Zarate was. I think the style of Serie A is not meant for the likes of these types of midfielders. As for Vazquez, he would be a great acquisition for Lazio – a player that can play on the wing, midfield or even as a striker if needed. Vazquez had 22 goals in 105 appearances in his last time in the Serie A TIM with Palermo.
