The Felipe Caicedo saga has been one of the biggest storylines of Lazio’s offseason. Will they keep him or will they finally sell him and find a more suitable replacement to back up Ciro Immobile? With the amount of time it is taking to figure out what to do with the Ecuadorian striker, Lazio have apparently already lost out on one of their top transfer targets Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge, a signing that seemed all but completed a few weeks ago.

The latest news regarding the player is the interest from three Spanish sides; Espanyol (his former club), Real Betis, and Real Valladolid. Lazio would love to sell Caicedo permanently, and unless Alessandro Rossi has impressed Inzaghi enough to become his vice-Immobile, a new signing should make way if Caicedo is finally sold. At the start of Lazio’s transfer market, the need to upgrade at the striker position and put less mileage on the legs of Immobile was a huge priority. We could say it was the number one reason Lazio missed out on Champions League as Immobile’s late season injury left Lazio with no real threat in attack. Keeping Caicedo would mean last year’s depth issue at the position will certainly remain a problem for the biancoceleste, and with other Serie A giants improving this offseason, it would not be wise entering the new season without having resolved this problem. After showing once again his lack of finishing in the friendly against Arsenal, it is clear Caicedo is not the answer us Lazio fans are looking for.
