On the 13th of January in 2019, Lazio will play their first match of the Coppa Italia in the Round of 16, due to their league position last season. The only question is, who will they be facing? The options are Pisa or Novara.
Pisa finished third in the Serie C Girone A last season with 61 points – they finished behind Robur Siena, and Livorno in the table. With only the top side [Livorno] getting promoted to the Serie B, Pisa will remain in the Serie C for the 2018/19 season. In their Coppa Italia run this season, Pisa started from the 1/128 finals where they played Triestina an eventual 3-2 victory after penalties over the newly promoted Serie C side. They then moved on to play Cremonese in the 1/64 finals; once again, a 4-3 victory after penalties against the Serie B side. Yesterday was the Round of 32, a match in which Pisa were very much so the underdog’s for. However, they caused quite an upset during Sunday evening’s match when they eliminated Serie A side Parma with a goal from Roberto Zammarini.
Novara started the Coppa Italia in the 1/64 finals where they played Perugia; a 3-1 secure victory. They then moved on to the next round yesterday, where they faced-off with Brescia – a side they came from 0-2 down against to equalize, before securing victory 4-5 in penalty kicks.
Who will win in this Round of 32 clash and play Lazio in the Round of 16?
