Before the new season begins next Saturday, Lazio has to register their squad of 25 players by August 18th. This needs to include 8 Italian and homegrown products.
Thomas Strakosha could only be registered as an Italian product last season, but will now, with new criteria (36 months in a club between the ages of 15-21), be eligible for the Lazio homegrown youth products alongside Guerrieri, Murgia, Cataldi and Rossi. This makes room for another Italian signing, which could be SPAL’s wingback Manuel Lazzari. Lazio has Immobile, Parolo and Acerbi as other Italian products since Di Gennaro and Sprocati seems to be on their way out. Maybe Udinese’s Kevin Lasagna could be another Italian option as vice-Immobile.
But there is less space for the remaining players over the age of 22 in the squad (19) and currently Jordan Lukaku and Djavan Anderson are “out”. The Dutchman has also been told by Lotito that he would replace Basta if the Serbian leaves Lazio. That makes one wonder how Lazio will do their math in order to register their squad.
The toughest question is if one of Murgia or Cataldi leaves Lazio this summer. The competition for central midfield is fierce with currently 7 players (Sergej, Leiva, Badelj, Parolo, Berisha, Murgia and Cataldi) for only 3 midfield spots. That might be one to many even if we play on three fronts.
Luiz Felipe on the other hand, fulfils the requirement of the under-21 players and is not needed to be registered. Also Pedro Neto and Bruno Jordao meet this criterion.
