Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi spoke at a press conference yesterday on the eve of the match against Napoli – a match truly valid for the first day of the Serie A TIM championship.

Talking about Lazio vs Napoli: “We will start off with a lot of desire. The competition draw has us immediately playing Napoli and Juventus in the first two matches; we would have expected something different but already tomorrow we have to raise the bar, be focused and play well. We prepared well, we probably wanted to have a few more days for some individuals, but I’m confident in this team.”

Talking about the transfer market:“The club [Lazio] was very good at keeping [Sergej] Milinkovic-Savic, however, he was not only one that fans and myself had to worry about: Luis Alberto and [Ciro] Immobile were, and still are, in great demand; it was not easy to keep them. It is a true fact that the other clubs in Serie A have strengthened their squads, making it very difficult to do well this season. We have lengthened the squad in the departments where we were a little short – regarding that list we have some players who are no longer in the Under 22 category, so we have to make some sacrifices. Right now, we have decided to give up on [Jordan] Lukaku, but from the moment he returns to top condition, I will try to immediately put him in his place because he is a player who is young with lots of talent. Before October, however, it will not be in the squad.”

Talking about Milinkovic-Savic: “If I had guarantees for Milinkovic-Savic staying this year at Lazio? Sergej is a requested player, but I spoke with the company: he will remain with us for the 2018/19 season. I even talked to him when he came back from vacation, there was a player’s will to stay. He trained in the best way possible – he is a 1995 born player, but he has proven to be very mature. He immediately made himself available to me and his teammates. Also, for him, it will be a complicated and difficult season because he will have to re-confirm the great past season he had.”

Talking about Cataldi and Rossi: Danilo knows that there is a lot of competition, he stayed, and I am happy because he showed that he was available and had the desire to play for the biancocelesti. As for Rossi, half of the Serie B sides wanted him. It is not the same Rossi who only scored two goals in Salerno last year, but one that is worth much more. He also knows that there is a lot of competition, but his growth has been constant, and he deserved to stay”.
