With the season underway and the summer mercato closed, Lazio seem to have fleshed out their squad for the season. One story that was present all summer was the probable exit of Felipe Caicedo after an underwhelming first campaign in Italy. The Ecuadorian may be getting less playing time this season after academy product Alessandro Rossi impressed Simone Inzaghi in the preseason and earned a roster spot.
However, it seems that the Biancocelesti believe there’s an opportunity to add more competition to who will back up Ciro Immobile this season. According to Cittaceleste, President Claudio Lotito and Sporting Director Igli Tare have identified Marco Borriello as a possible signing. The 36-year-old spent last season with SPAL, making 16 appearances but registering only one goal.
Borriello has proven himself in Italy’s top flight, unlike Caicedo and Rossi, and would bring valuable experience to the position. The move seems unlikely at the moment, but if the team has lost all faith in Caicedo I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Italian added to the squad.
