A recording of a heated discussion between Simone Inzaghi and Claudio Lotito was released yesterday by Il Messaggero.
Lotito is heard saying:
“Simone, I decide, not you,”
“I’m telling you by every means possible: I want to be sure of those who are injured and those who aren’t.
“You’re always complaining about everything. You have a squad worth 10 times the others!”
In an interview with RMC Sport, Lazio spokesman Arturo Diaconale later confirmed that the conversation published by Il Messaggero was indeed between Claudio Lotito and Simone Inzaghi. Diaconale said it was normal for the coach to want ”11 Ronaldos and the best medical team there is” and for Lotito to point out that that’s not possible.
Lotito saying “You’re always complaining…”, as confirmed by Diaconale, is from “early August”.
According to the Corriere dello Sport, the tensions between the coach and the president would begin as a result of differences on the recovery of the players during the German retreat in Marienfeld.
This suggests that the part where Lotito says ”you have a team that is worth ten times more than the others” and “I want to be sure of those who are injured and those who aren’t” might be referring to the medical team and the aspect of the recovery of the players.
A talking point has in fact been the injured players (Alberto, Marusic, Berisha and Lukaku) and players returning late (Sergej, Badelj and Caceres) for the important preparation before the new season. Important players like Sergej and Alberto have also been said to not be in the best form at the moment.
