Juventus vs Lazio: preview, predicted lineups & prediction

Juventus vs Lazio will kick-off at 6pm Italian time on Saturday the 25th of August and is set to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s home debut in a Juventus shirt. Meanwhile, Lazio are hoping to bounce back from defeat against Napoli to prove the doubters wrong in Turin once again.

Juventus played Lazio three times last season, with the Biancoceleste winning twice and Juve emerging victorious once. Juventus vs Lazio was last season’s Supercoppa Italiana fixture, with Lazio winning the match 3-2 thanks to an injury time winner from Alessandro Murgia. Lazio won 2-1 in this fixture last season, with Ciro Immobile scoring both of the goals, whilst the reverse fixture, in Rome, finished 1-0 to Juventus.

Juventus started their 18/19 Serie A campaign with a 3-2 win against Chievo Verona, in which they were fortunate to come back from 2-1 down to win the match via an injury time winner from Federico Bernardeschi. In pre-season, Juve defeated the likes of Bayern Munich, Benfica and the MLS All-Stars; whilst losing 3-1 to Real Madrid in the final game of their International Champions Cup pre-season schedule.

Lazio, meanwhile, lost 2-1 to Napoli last Saturday; despite leading thanks to a fantastic goal from Ciro Immobile. The team suffered from the same ‘blackout’ that plagued them last season; costing them a place in the Europa League semi-finals by throwing away a 3-goal aggregate advantage against Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg. In pre-season, Lazio lost to both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund but did pick up victories against smaller sides.

Juventus vs Lazio Predicted Line-ups and team news

Juventus (4-3-3): Perin; Sandro, Chiellini, Bonucci, Cancelo; Pjanic, Matuidi, Can; Costa, Ronaldo, Mandzukic

Lazio (3-5-1-1): Strakosha; Wallace, Acerbi, Radu; Marusic, Parolo, Leiva, Milinkovic-Savic, Lulic; Luis Alberto; Immobile

Juventus have a nearly clean bill of health, with Leonardo Spinazzola the only player injured. However, Juan Cuadrado didn’t impress much against Cheivo Verona and the thought is that, therefore, Allegri could switch to a 4-3-3 with Mandzukic out on the right wing instead of the tricky Colombian.

Lazio, on the other hand, have Lucas Leiva and Senad Lulic return from suspension, with both set to play a part in the match – Leiva in central midfield and Lulic likely out at the left wing-back position. Lazio are without Luiz Felipe, who will be out injured until the end of September, meaning that Wallace will probably take his place in the defence – after proving to Simone Inzaghi that he is worth keeping hold of.

Juventus vs Lazio Prediction

It will be a tough game for Lazio but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to explain that. Juventus will be eager to show off how far they have come in front of their fans, whilst Ronaldo will likely aim to make the scoresheet – after failing to find the net against Chievo last weekend. Lazio, on the other hand, seem to be in a slight state of disarray, with tensions on and off the pitch in the run-up to the Juventus vs Lazio game.

Prediction: Juventus 2-1 Lazio
