Frosinone, Stirpe: “I asked Lotito for Cataldi and Patric, Lazio are amongst the top five clubs in Serie A”

Frosinone has returned to the top tier of Italian football after a short stint in the Serie B. The work and the sacrifice of the club have paid off: a sports center, youth sector (and development program), property for a stadium – it is a project destined to leave its mark. The short-term goal for the club is salvation; being able to remain in the Serie A for many years to come. President Maurizio Stirpe is convinced of this and today he spoke to the microphones of LaLazioSiamoNoi.it in a long chat in view of the matchup on Sunday evening between Lazio and his Frosinone: “Lazio is a great club. They are still without points, but they have faced Napoli and Juventus – two very hard opponents. It will be a very difficult match for us as they are at similar to Atalanta – the club we debuted against in Matchday 1.”

Was there any interest for footballers of Lazio over the summer transfer market?

“I dealt personally with Claudio Lotito about Danilo Cataldi, but the economic ambitions that Lazio wanted to achieve with the transfer of the player were not within our reach, so we parted cordially with the president. There is displeasure, but it was not possible to carry on with the deal. Other negotiations? We had asked for Patric, but Lazio considered him unsellable.”

How and what are the current relationships with Lotito like?

“With Claudio, I have a relationship of respect and esteem. It is much deeper than what can be seen and how they highlight the facts. Certainly, each of us has different visions, for example, the subdivision of the proceeds deriving from television rights or some aspects between the Serie A and Serie B. All this, however, is part of a dialectic that has never resulted in a lack of personal respect or intolerance. I was among the first to praise the work carried out by Lotito within Lazio. I believe that in these 14 years he has built a hyper-consolidated reality within the European football scenario, not just Italian, and this only gives the president more honor.”

In your opinion, Do you think Lazio will be able to fight for the Champions League again this year?

“They have kept hold of a very important piece in their side in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who was indispensable if Lazio were to have any chance to make the Champions League. In my opinion, Lazio today is a team that can easily be amongst the top five clubs in the standings, so if they will be as good as last year, with a bit of luck, they can aspire to play in the next Champions League”.
