The Europa League has dominated our news today because there is perhaps a genuine belief that Lazio should be challenging for this trophy. There are some top quality teams in this year’s tournament; with Chelsea and Arsenal from the Premier League in the group stage – added to whatever teams finish third in their Champions League groups. Lazio have been drawn in Group H of the Europa League, alongside Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille, Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt and Cypriot team Apollon Limassol.
Speaking on the draw and ahead of the tournament, Frankfurt coach Adolf Hütter spoke at a press conference: “It’s a very tough group, but also interesting, and this makes our goal special, even for the fans. We know it will be difficult, but we want to play a great tournament.”
The club’s sporting director, Fredi Bobic said that “We have drawn a very difficult group with great dangers, we will have to give everything to reach the promotion to the knockout stage. Lazio is a team that knows the European stage very well; Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are clearly their top players, and then the Stadio Olimpico in Rome is definitely worth a visit.”
Frankfurt CEO Axel Hellmann even added to the discussion: “Each group is available and each group is complicated. We will face the finalists of last season (Marseille) And Lazio, a team that is accustomed to playing in Europe. It is a difficult group, but also manageable.”
