Aleksander Kolarov, former Lazio player and current Roma player, spoke at a press conference ahead of his fixtures with the Serbian national team against Lithuania and Romania; with a match against Adam Marusic’s Montenegro in October.
“I played for Lazio, then I went to England and I came back to Rome, to Roma, because I’m a professional, I’m not a Roman. But a national team does not work like this: how can you play for Montenegro since you were not born in Montenegro? Or for Austria if you’re not Austrian? It is sad if you have made this choice because maybe you did not think you were part of Serbia, having little confidence in yourself.”
Kolarov is referring to the fact that Marusic was born in Belgrade in Serbia but chose instead to play for the Montenegrin national team.
