Report: Lukaku to West Ham broke down due to £10 million price tag

West Ham signed Felipe Anderson from Lazio this past summer on a 4-year, club record fee deal; a deal that was said to be around £40 million. With the Hammer fans surprised to have paid so much for the Brazilian winger, Claudio Lotito was clearly happy to sell the player for the amount he did, especially as Anderson was used a substitute to Luis Alberto last season. According to new reports, however, Felipe Anderson was not the only player enquired about from Lazio by the London club.

With a brother who is currently in England and has been playing in the Premier League for quite some time, there was speculation that Jordan Lukaku (Romelu Lukaku’s brother) who had not returned to the Lazio pre-season training was on the move to West Ham to join Felipe Anderson and his brother in England. A substitute to club captain Senad Lulic on the left flank, there was reasoning and interest, so why did the deal not go forward? The answer: money.

Lotito and Lazio were said to be wanting at least £10 million for the left full-back, a figure that was deemed to be too high by the management of the Hammers, especially after dishing out so much to acquire Anderson. This maybe came back to haunt West Ham as they have currently started the season on a 4-match losing streak – a disastrous start for Manuel Pellegrini and the club.
