The prize money for this season’s Europa League has increased, as Lazio prepare to begin their campaign against Cypriot side Apollon Limassol in Rome on Thursday evening.
According to reports from Il Corriere dello Sport, via LazioNews.eu, the jackpot for winning the tournament has increased by 30%, from €40m to €55m, as the level of the competition ever continues to increase.
Last year, Lazio earned €17million, yet, if they were to emulate the results of last season, this season, the Biancocelesti would walk home with €28million – a substantial increase that could prove pivotal in providing Europa League-level clubs with the funding to help them challenge for Champions League football.
Last year, an individual game win would be worth €360K, whilst it is now worth €570K and finally, the winner of the group will now be given an extra €1m.
