Udinese vs Lazio, Inzaghi: ‘Correa can still do much better’

Joaquin Correa made his first start for Lazio against Udinese last night, scoring the winner as the Biancocelesti ran out eventual 2-1 winners. Simone Inzaghi will be glad his faith was repaid as Lazio make it five wins from five in all competitions.

Speaking after the game, Lazio head coach Simone Inzaghi reflected and revealed his thoughts at the post-match press conference:

When did you think about training tonight?

“I had different ideas. We were ready for a complicated match against a tough team to face. They will bother many other teams.”

Now we can talk about the derby: what game do you expect?

“Now yes, the guys were good at tackling these other games in the best way.”

How does it feel to have a longer bench?

“There is a great team spirit, they are all involved, it’s right with so many games. There are players who make it difficult for me to make choices. Today in the second half we made two goals, then we just went over a naivete, we waited for the referee’s whistle, with a little more attention we would have avoided the final chaos and my voice would be good. I try to involve everyone, even the substitutes of the last three games have always done well.”

How much does Correa’s goal weigh for his season?

“He scored a great goal. He is strong, with quality. He is getting used to playing in a more internal position, he is getting better. Against Empoli he had been unlucky, taking the post. He still has great room for growth.”

What are the protests on the goals conceded?

“There was one of our players on the ball, he was turned away by the referee, at which point we expected the whistle. There was a protest, I do not know who is right but we should not be caught unprepared. It needed to be more alert and attentive. Strakosha would have taken it if there had not been Badelj’s deflection.”

Radu can make it for the derby? Is it important to make everyone participate in such a busy season?

“For Radu I do not know, we will evaluate in the next days, but what matters is the spirit. As for the rose I want to make two names above all, that of Patric who was on the debut from the first minute and that of Luiz Felipe, who was injured since 18 August. It was the right game to risk it, even for those that are its characteristics. He had a principle of cramps and for this I replaced him.”
