According to reports from English newspaper The Mirror‘s online portal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have all joined the race for Lazio’s 23-year-old Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The reports suggest that scouts from the three English clubs were present at Lazio’s 4-1 win over Genoa last weekend; where Milinkovic-Savic scored his first goal of the season. Manchester United, Juventus, Chelsea and Real Madrid were all linked with the Serbian powerhouse over the summer but Claudio Lotito priced any suitors out of a move with a €150 million price tag.

The Biancocelesti are close to finalising a new contract for Sergej, which will likely see him become, with Ciro Immobile, the highest paid player of the Lotito era at Lazio. The midfielder’s current contract expires in 2022 but the extension will tie him to the club til 2023; with Sergej earning over €3 million per season.

Opinion:

It didn’t take long for the Milinkovic-Savic rumours to return, just a week after he scores his first goal of the season. I doubt that Tottenham Hotspur would have the spending capacity to buy Sergej whilst City and Liverpool still seem like outsiders when compared to the possible destinations of United, Madrid or Juventus. Sergej hasn’t been playing fantastically this season so that will likely have a negative effect on his price if we do end up selling. I wouldn’t expect any move in January; but who knows about next summer.
