Tonight brings not only Frankfurt and Lazio together for a vital Europa League clash but also two players with a very similar, inspirational, story. Francesco Acerbi and Marco Russ are key parts of their respective defences yet have overcome great issues and struggles to get to where they are today. Both men have had testicular cancer in the past and have battled through it to return to professional football; even if at one point it looked like there was no hope.
Russ, yesterday, said that he was interested in swapping shirts with Acerbi after the game, as they both share a similar story. Today, as per reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Acerbi has accepted the request, expressing how he is pleased to be able to meet the German defender who has been through the same struggles that he has.
