According to the latest reports from Gazza-run news outlet CittaCeleste, Lazio are interested in signing Genoa defender Davide Biraschi. Biraschi is a right-back who can also double as the central defender in a three-man defence, making him the perfect versatile addition for Simone Inzaghi and Lazio.
Lazio’s perceived lack of ability on the right, with Adam Marusic and Dusan Basta underperforming and Patric all but shut out of the club, and linked heavily with a move to Besiktas, means that a move for Biraschi could make sense – and could happen as soon as January.
Lazio will not want to waste any time in the January transfer window, patching up the holes in the team and giving Inzaghi and the technical staff a lot more to work with as they attempt to push for a place in the top four of Serie A..
Opinion (@snhw_):
Biraschi has been impressive for Genoa so far this season, playing primarily as a central defender. He has picked up a MOTM award in Serie A this campaign, an accomplishment given the high-flying, goal-scoring antics of Polish forward Piatek.
Biraschi’s versatility would make him a good signing for Lazio but undoubtedly he would set Lazio back a fair amount. Biraschi is Italian, which, in itself, raises his price due to home-grown regulations. However, at just 24-years-old, Biraschi still has a lot to learn and develop into; perhaps he could learn from Francesco Acerbi and Stefan Radu if he moved to Lazio?
In terms of likelihood, I could see this deal happening. Biraschi is at the right kind of reputation and status for Lazio to make a move and, without the threat of an elite club loitering, the Biancocelesti could be very confident in their ability to make the deal a reality.
