Everyone’s favourite (OK well maybe just mine) love-to-hate Brazilian centre-back, Mauricio, has officially terminated his contract with Lazio; three years after joining the club from Sporting Lisbon.
Mauricio signed for Lazio on loan, with a €2.6m option-to-buy which was eventually met, in January 2015 – yet only managed 25 league appearances for the Biancocelesti, spending spells out on loan at Spartak Moscow and, most recently, Legia Warsaw.
After a poor spell on Warsaw, Mauricio returned to Rome to see if he would be given one last chance with the Biancocelesti. Despite Lazio’s defensive woes, the Brazilian was not included in the first team squads and, therefore, started looking for a way out.
A move back to Brazil and to Vasco da Gama has been reported as a possibility for some time, whilst a return to Palmeiras in Brazil couldn’t be ruled out either. The other two tracks for Mauricio are those that lead to an Arab nation or China. The 30-year-old could receive a bumper pay-check that tempts him into playing in one of these locations.
