Lazio defeated Marseille 3-1 yesterday evening, with Ecuadorian forward Felipe Caicedo scoring a fantastic goal for Lazio’s second after a strong pass from Ciro Immobile. A Dmitri Payet free-kick gave Lazio a late scare but wing-back Adam Marusic scored a brilliant goal to complete the rout. After the match, Caicedo spoke to Sky Sport, with quotes via LaLazioSiamoNoi:
“We had a great game, I do not know if it was the best of the year, but we were perfect, from first to last, we did everything to win. I am happy with what I’m doing. I’m helping the team and this is a good thing. I have to keep going, do not give up. Criticism of last year? This year I feel more fit. I had a good preparation before starting the championship. Now I’m in confidence and the coach helped me. I feel the affection of the people. Substituted due to injury? No nothing serious, just cramps.
“I was talking to my wife on the phone, she told me that we had a great game, I’m really happy, we put in a great performance tonight. It was very hot here in Marseille, but we are used to these temperatures, they are strong, but today we were stronger than them, we worked a lot during the week, we knew how we would have to face Marseille and we managed to do our job Monday’s match against Inter is, for us, the most important considering what happened last season. We arrive to the challenge with a load of confidence thanks to today’s victory and we will do our best to redeem ourselves.
