Marseille-Lazio, Inzaghi: “Congratulations to the boys”

A dominant Lazio side who crushed the Olympique de Marseille supporters hearts at the Velodrome yesterday: a final score of 3-1 for the Biancocelesti has created a 5 point margin between themselves and the third/fourth place teams (Marseille and Apollon Limassol). The goals scored by Wallace and Felipe Caicedo have Lazio a deserved cushioned lead until Dmitri Payet scored a free kick to make things interesting near the end of the match. However, in the end, Lazio came out on top with a spectacular goal from Adam Marusic in the 90′. In what now looks like a secured qualification into the Round of 16, anything can happen in football and the Roman side have to remain cautious if they want to progress. At the end of the match,  Simone Inzaghi was intervened by the TV8 microphones.

“It was an important evening, in a beautiful stadium, against a strong opponent. We completed the game we had prepared; we entered the field well. A few men remained stiff but we gritted our teeth. The qualification speech is not yet closed. The five points are a good margin but we still have to sweat to pass the turn and it will be important to win the home match against Marseille. I can only congratulate the boys, I just have to thank them.”

Wallace? I have always believed in him because he always gives everything in training and I wanted to keep him tight.”

Lucas Leiva picked up a problem with his adductor: it was just as he had entered the field for the second half and we did not want to risk him, it should not be serious.”

“Also for Caicedo, it is not a serious problem, he felt the flexor pull and we preferred to take him off”.

In addition, the biancocelesti manager took a closer look at the match and the Europa League  as he spoke to the Lazio Style Channel microphones:

“The arrival at the stadium was not the best, but the guys were very good and deserved a very important victory. It would have been a shame not to win tonight. The only drawback of the first half was not to have doubled. Now we enjoy success trying to recover energy in view of Inter.  It is not easy at all to win with this authority at the Velodrome; we saw the end of the match tonight in the best way.”

“There is a bit of regret for the match against Eintracht Frankfurt – by the 55′ we were down to nine men. We have to look ahead since we have three more games left”.
