Stefan de Vrij’s cost to Inter revealed

Most Lazio fans will remember the friction between former defender Stefan de Vrij and Lazio’s management, mainly sporting director Igli Tare and owner Claudio Lotito, before his departure after four years with the club.

There were long time talks about de Vrij’s potential exit from the team months before it happened with the defender even posting on Instagram describing Lazio as a comfort zone he needed to leave in order to reach his goals. Before the Dutch international left Rome, there were even talks of an agreement between Lazio and Seg, de Vrij’s sporting agency before it was aborted abruptly.

De Vrij ended up signing with Inter on a free transfer this past summer but publications of Inter’s financial statements have revealed his exact cost to the team. The financial statements were from June 30, 2018, and highlighted that his cost to the Nerazzurri was €7.5 million. That sum is almost entirely destined for intermediation. In contrast, it was also revealed that Ghanian international Kwadwo Asamoah, who signed for Inter on a free transfer this past summer, cost the team €2.4 million.

Interestingly these budgets were released on the eve of Lazio’s first match against Inter since their heartbreaking defeat on the final matchday of last season…
