Lazio had an evening to forget as they were defeated 3-0 by Inter Milan this evening. Lazio vs Inter showed a lot of promise for Simone Inzaghi’s side to show what they were made of, but the Biancocelesti fell short of expectations and were thumped by Luciano Spalletti’s team.
Inter Milan started strong when Mauro Icardi found the back of the net in the first half and things went from bad to worse for Lazio when Marcelo Brozovic scored from long range. Inzaghi’s team never looked like getting back into the game and Icardi wrapped the game up with his second to make it 3-0 in the 69th minute.

Lazio were let down today by a general lack of ambition. Nobody on the field, bar Joaquin Correa when he came on for Felipe Caicedo, showed any sign of scoring; Ciro Immobile missing at least three good chances to give Lazio a way back into the game. Poor finishing and poor spirit meant that Inter could walk all over Lazio and Lazio vs Inter was decided by just this.

Thoughts
“Where to start with this one. A 3-0 home defeat against a side we challenged for the fourth spot last season.
Coming off a terrific 3-1 victory over Marseille in the Europa League and with last years defeat in the final match of the season (against the Inter) still in the back of their memories, I believed Lazio would have come to play with all their heart. Wrong.
An awful display all in all, Simone Inzaghi got it wrong from before the 1’, starting Felipe Caicedo alongside Ciro Immobile. Yes he has been in top form recently, yes he has impressed, but against a top side, we need a Luis Alberto or Joaquin Correa to start. Inzaghi mentioned that Inter were a “physical side” (absolutely true with Miranda, Skriniar, and Vrsajlko in defense)and this is potentially the reason why he went with the Ecuadorian.
Lacking of accuracy and desire, every time something didn’t go Lazio’s way, they were waving in the air complaining – a poor attitude to have.
Inzaghi additionally said “last year we struggled from set pieces” and today we saw that in both ends of the pitch: we couldn’t win a header (or anything by that means) off an attacking corner, and off an opposing corner, we allowed Inter to get to nearly every ball.
Joaquin Correa was the star for Lazio in this match – brought life into the side.
Danilo Cataldi came in after Milan Badelj went down with injury and was also very good. For someone with just 2’ of Serie A TIM football this year, he was calm and composed. Also struck a great free kick that almost went in.”
