Lazio 4-1 Spal: report, ratings and highlights

Lazio vs Spal finished 4-1 to the Biancocelesti as two goals from Ciro Immobile and impressive long-range efforts from midfielders Danilo Cataldi and Marco Parolo gave Simone Inzaghi’s side a big three points at the Stadio Olimpico. The team put defeat against Inter Milan behind them and focused on the task at hand, extending Lazio’s impressive 100% record against teams outside of the big six.

Lazio opened the scoring in the 26th minute after a pass from Danilo Cataldi found Ciro Immobile, who put the ball in the back of the net. Spal promptly equalised in the 28th minute with Mirco Antenucci after a whipped cross from Lazio target Manuel Lazzari. It didn’t take long for Inzaghi’s side to take the lead again, when, in the 35th minute, good build-up play from Felipe Caicedo gave Ciro Immobile a chance to score his second, which the Italian took with ease.

The second half was much easier for Lazio, who played extremely well to give Spal no way back into the match. The Biancocelesti pinged the ball around with ease, bringing back the fast attacking football that made the team so entertaining to watch last campaign. In the 59th minute, Danilo Cataldi scored a beautiful goal from outside the box after winning the ball back in dangerous territory. Marco Parolo then scored a similar goal in the 70th minute.

Inzaghi recovered from the defeat to Inter Milan in the best way possible as Lazio now look ahead to games against Marseille and Sassuolo, before the international break takes place. Lazio sit in 4th place in Serie A after Lazio vs Spal, four points off of 3rd place Napoli and three points above AC Milan in 5th, with the Rossoneri yet to play their game in hand, which takes place against Udinese this evening.

Lazio vs Spal Player Ratings:

Strakosha 6.5 – The Albanian had a quiet game in goal for Lazio, with little in the way of tests. There was not much he could’ve done to prevent Spal’s only goal.

Radu 7 – Business as usual for the newly extended Romanian, had a couple of minor lapses in focus but overall played well.

Acerbi 7.5 – Strong performance in defence from the experienced Italian – helped organise the defence and turnover possession.

Wallace 7.5 – Once again showed the makings of a quality defender.

Lulic 7 – Caught in no man’s land for the Spal goal, Lulic was strong going forward but failed to offer much in the way of defensive assistance on Spal’s few attacks.

Milinkovic-Savic 7 – Starting to look more like the Sergej we remember, the Serb is still nowhere near his full capacity. Faced his brother in goal today and had plenty of efforts on target, yet failed to find the net.

Cataldi 8.5 – Stepped into the midfield and looked like he had been playing there for years. Scored an excellent goal, provided an assist for Immobile’s first and was one of the star performers on the field.

Parolo 8 – Scored a fantastic goal to round-off a strong performance.

Patric 7.5 – The Spaniard once again played well at right wing-back, delivering an offensive and defensive threat for Lazio.

Caicedo 7.5 – The Ecuadorian put a disappointing performance against Inter Milan behind him to offer good support for Immobile and provided the assist for Ciro’s second.

Immobile 8.5 – Two goals speaks volumes but perhaps he should have had more. Was nearly at his best, instinctively finding space and creating opportunities throughout.
