The Lazio players heading for the exit in January

The January transfer window should bring a busy month as far as Lazio transfer news goes. There are still parts of the team that need strengthening, with Lazio reportedly looking in the market at right wing-backs and central defenders; as well as in more advanced positions to serve as replacements for failing players. Join TheLaziali.com as we take a look at the players likely to be leaving Lazio in January:

Martin Caceres

The Uruguayan defender joined Lazio in January but has played very little for the Biancocelesti in his near-year at the club. It has been reported that Caceres has requested a transfer away from Lazio and, as he is not being used, Tare and Lotito could decide that moving him on is best for all parties.

Dusan Basta

Recently removed from the Lazio Serie A registration list in order to make room from Jordan Lukaku, who finally returned from injury, Dusan Basta’s time at Lazio looks to be at an end.  The Serbian has served Lazio well but simply doesn’t match up to the quality of Adam Marusic and Patric; with Basta actually being sent off in the match against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League where Lazio lost 4-1. Basta’s contract expires in 2019 but he could be sold in January to avoid leaving on a free.

Alessandro Murgia

Murgia’s reported departure would likely not be a permanent one but instead a loan move elsewhere. Featuring prominently for the side last season, even scoring the winner of the Supercoppa Italiana late-on, Murgia has fallen down the pecking order after the arrivals of Milan Badelj and Valon Berisha; as well as the return and revival of Lazio’s other young Italian midfielder, Danilo Cataldi. Chievo Verona, Frosinone and Spal are all interested in signing Murgia on loan, with it thought that Lazio could try and use Murgia in order to sign Manuel Lazzari from Spal.

Alessandro Rossi

Another player who was unfortunate with the revival of a teammate is Alessandro Rossi. After scoring plenty of goals at Lazio’s Auronzo di Cadore training camp and pre-season friendlies, Rossi looked set to serve as vice-Immobile, after Lazio missed out on their summer targets such as Club Brugge’s Wesley Moraes. However, Felipe Caicedo’s much improved form has shut Rossi out of the side and led Inzaghi to prefer a rotation of Caicedo, Joaquin Correa or Luis Alberto alongside Ciro Immobile in attack. Pescara are reportedly interested in Rossi, with a loan on the cards as Inzaghi still has a lot of faith in the Italian forward.

The rest

There are still a handful of players still technically tied to the club but without a contract or any future in store for them in Biancocelesti. For example, Ravel Morrison has been linked with a move to Swedish side Ostersunds whilst Bryan Perea is also on the look-out for a new club.
