Speaking in an interview with Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio president Claudio Lotito spoke on the club’s finances, defending his spending (or lack thereof) by comparing Lazio’s success on the field with that of their rivals. Lazio are making money, whilst the other big teams in Serie A are not, with Lotito saying the following on the matter:
“I’d like to remind people that Lazio, after Juve, Inter Milan and AC Milan, are the team who have won the most trophies under my ownership,
“We’ve been able to combine economic results with sporting ones. Last year we beat Juventus in the Supercoppa, despite spending €120m and Juve €500m, while the average of the other clubs is about €300m.
“Let’s say that despite having a third of Juve’s investment power, we’re doing a good job. Lazio ended the year with a €38m profit, the only club with such a profit. All the big sides ended with a loss.
“We’re combining sound management with results on the field. Lazio are certainly a great club on a business level.”
