Italy: Immobile plays 74′ against Portugal, Acerbi full 90′ against USA

Both of Lazio’s entrants in the Italian national team had outings with Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri side in their past two fixtures. Forward Ciro Immobile played 74 minutes against Portugal in Italy’s final UEFA Nations League game. Meanwhile, centre-back Francesco Acerbi played the full 90 minutes for Italy in their friendly match against the United States.

Despite having 15 attempts on goal, Italy failed to score against Portugal; Ciro Immobile missing two good chances and raising further questions as to why it seems like a different player for Italy when compared to his prolificacy in Biancocelesti. After a goal-shy evening, Immobile was removed from the pitch in the 74th minute, replaced by Kevin Lasagna. Italy’s 0-0 draw meant that, although they would not be reaching the Nations League semi-finals next summer, they will not be relegated – avoiding the scalp that high quality teams like Germany and Croatia have seen.

Roberto Mancini experimented with his team in the friendly International against the United States, in which Inter Milan forward Matteo Politano scored a late winner to give the Azzurri a win. Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi played the full 90 minutes and played well, helping the Italians keep a hard-earned clean sheet against a promising young USA team.
