Lazio 1-1 Milan: match report and player ratings

Lazio vs Milan

Lazio vs Milan

Lazio vs Milan took place at the Stadio Olimpico this evening, with Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio drawing 1-1 with Gennaro Gattuso’s side. The first goal came in the 79th minute, when Franck Kessie took a shot which deflected off of Lazio defender Wallace and past Thomas Strakosha to give the Rossoneri the lead. Inzaghi made some questionable choices, including the substitution of both Luis Alberto and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who were showing promising signs of a return to past form. However, substitute Joaquin Correa stepped up to the plate when he needed to and scored a fantastic equaliser deep into added time.

Lazio started the game well, dominating for most of the first half. The Biancocelesti started the game with a real intent and Simone Inzaghi’s side worked hard to peg Milan, albeit weakened through injuries and suspensions, back. Ciro Immobile and Marco Parolo both had good opportunities to give Lazio the lead in the first 45 minutes and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto began to show signs of the players we saw so often last season. Milan had a couple of opportunities in the first half but Thomas Strakosha pulled off some good saves – pushing a shot from Calhanoglu onto the post at one point.

Lazio started the second half with the same intent as they had in the first 45, having various opportunities and chances to put themselves ahead of Gattuso’s side. In the 65th minute, Simone Inzaghi took off Luis Alberto and Milinkovic-Savic, bringing on Jordan Lukaku, for just his third appearance of the season, and Joaquin Correa. In the 79th minute, things went from promising to disastrous for Lazio, with Kessie having a shot deflected off of Wallace and into the back of the net, putting Milan 1-0 up. Lazio battled hard to try and work their way back into the game and Ciro Immobile went close late in regulation time. Deep into injury-time, however, Lazio found their equaliser through a fantastic goal from Joaquin Correa.
