Agent of Cimirot, Stevic: “Roma? In fact, Lazio have inquired”

The name of Gojko Cimirot – the Bosnian central midfielder of Standard Liege – has bounced back and forth across the Tiber river, from the Giallorossi to the Biancocelesti.  Miroslav Stevic, the player’s agent, commented on the rumor linking him to Roma if he were to come to Rome; however, he explained how instead, out of the two, it is Lazio who has actually inquired about the midfielder.

“Interest of Roma? No, I do not know anything about it. I’ve never received calls from Monchi. In Italy Gojko likes three or four teams, in particular, Lazio has asked me about the situation, especially last summer, but no written offers have arrived. But to reiterate, there is nothing with Roma. They never called me or the player”.

Cimirot, who is 25 years of age, started his career in his homeland of Bosnia with FK Leotar Trebinje, before moving to first tier Bosnian side FK Sarajevo. He remained for just two years before Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki came knocking – they paid a fee of around 1.17 million pounds for the 5’10” footballer in the 2015/16 season. At the age of 21, he made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Greek side in his first season, securing his spot as a starter. The 2016/17 season was even more impressive feat – 49 appearances in all competitions. He nearly played every match for the side showing his value and his ability to remain match fit. After a wondrous year and starting the 2017/18 campaign on a high note, he was acquired by Belgian side Standard Liege in January to play in the Jupiler Pro League for a fee of around 2.25 million pounds. Since this date, he has made 40 appearances scoring one goal and providing one assist.

A good fit for Lazio? At TheLaziali.com, we believe Cimirot was intended on being a potential replacement for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic if he was to depart, or an acquisition in case of an unsuccessful negotiation for Kosovan midfielder Valon Berisha. Currently, our central midfield department is filled with a pool of players and if the Bosnian were to arrive, he would likely sit on the bench until space opened in the team, similar to Danilo Cataldi and Alessandro Murgia.
