Matchday 17 of the Serie A TIM was quite a positive one for Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio. A 3-1 victory of Cagliari at home snapped a seven-match winless run, allowing them to secure fourth spot in the league. Not only did Laziali feel a sense of joy and excitement because of the result, but it was also the way the players performed – specifically Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto, who debatably played their best match of the season, reminding everyone of their terrific skill and capabilities. The Serbian scored the first goal of the match while the Spaniard was back to his creative self, hitting set pieces accurately and placing perfectly timed passes to his attacking partners.

Looking at whoscored.com, who post a weekly “Serie A TIM Team of the Week”, the excellent play from Simone Inzaghi’s side resulted in four of the eleven players on the list to be Biancoceleste players. These were Milinkovic-Savic, Luis Alberto, Francesco Acerbi (who scored the second goal of the match), and Senad Lulic (who scored the third goal of the match); their respective rankings were 8.5, 8.3, 8.0, and 8.3.

Other members of the eleven consist of three Juventus players (Mattia De Sciglio, Alex Sandro, and Mario Mandzukic) after a dominant 1-0 victory of Roma; two Napoli players (Alex Meret and Raul Albiol) after a 1-0 victory over SPAL; and one player from each of SPAL (Manuel Lazzari) and Genoa (Krzysztof Piatek). Meret made several saves to keep Napoli ahead; Fullbacks De Sciglio and Alex Sandro dominated the left and right flanks; Albiol scored the only goal of the match against SPAL with a header off a corner; Lazzari continued to hustle up and down the pitch providing an attacking and defensive presence; Mandzukic scored the only goal of the match against Roma with a header off a cross from De Sciglio; and Piatek scored a goal in Genoa’s 3-1 victory over Atalanta.
