Report: Lazio target Timothy Castagne as Zappacosta alternative

According to what has been reported by CittaCeleste, Lazio are targeting Timothy Castagne as an alternative to Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta; who the Biancocelesti have been linked with in recent weeks. Chelsea are prepared to sell Zappacosta but the valuation of their Italian defender may prove to be a stumbling block for Igli Tare and Claudio Lotito – leading them to consider other options.

Castagne currently plays for fellow Serie A side Atalanta and is a natural at the right-back/right wing-back position. Castagne’s contract expires in the summer of 2020 and could therefore be available now for as little as €6-€7m, around half of the valuation of Zappacosta. Furthermore, whilst Zappacosta earns €3m per season at Chelsea, Castagne’s wage demands would be much less and Lazio could tie him to a contract for around €1m per season.

Igli Tare has reportedly had his eye on Castagne since the Belgian’s days in his home country with Genk; whilst the pressure on Lazio to sign a right-back increases. Adam Marusic will miss the games against Napoli and Juventus through suspension and therefore the Biancocelesti must act quick to help resolve their issues.
