Francesco Acerbi: Inter fans were scared of Koulibaly’s ability

Upon visiting the Collegio San Giuseppe today with Claudio Lotito and Alessandro Murgia, Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi spoke on the topic of racism – as the issue is proving damaging to both Italy and the nation’s football.

Speaking on racism in general, Acerbi said: “It is absolutely awful that there are racist chants in the stadiums , it’s really annoying but there will always be those 100 idiots who will do bad things and it is also difficult to stop them so you can not stop all the matches every time you hear an offensive chant.”

The Italian then added, speaking explicitly on the Kalidou Koulibaly incident, where the Senegalese defender was racially abused for nearly the entire match in Napoli’s 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan at the San Siro. “We must do something different, drastic, but always sorry, it happened again and it happened to Koulibaly also according to me because it is so strong that they wanted to intimidate him.
