A disappointing performance at the San Paolo against Napoli, which saw Lazio succumb to a 2-1 defeat. Speaking to the Sky Sports microphones at the end of the match, Simone Inzaghi commented on the game: “Napoli played better than us, they certainly deserved to win. I do not know if the challenge from Acerbi on Callejon in the first half was foul but certainly, there was no warning provided. Also in the second half, Acerbi moves and takes the ball clearly. I’m angry but there are episodes that ultimately go wrong. Correa? He is a terrific resource for us, the last six games he has played in all of them but the Coppa Italia due to a cold.”
Speaking on the referee Rocchi: “We had approached the match well, then we were too passive and Napoli deservedly took the lead. Once the game was reopened in eleven versus eleven we would have challenged them. Rocchi is an international and very good referee, but tonight I do not like either of the two warnings.”
On Napoli: “After ten minutes, we lowered our performance. Napoli dribbled well and we could not do what we had come prepared to do. We were better in the second half – we had good situations, but Meret was equally good, if not better. We need a lesson – in the standings, there are several teams at the top and all of them will play for the Champions League and the Europa League spots”.
On the Milinkovic-Savic substitution: “We were outnumbered and Milinkovic was already on a yellow. I preferred to take the player off on Sunday because we will have several defections, I thought about the very important match we will have with Juventus. Lately, we had all done very well in matches, we came from a very good period and Milinkovic and Luis Alberto have grown up in conditioning and play, as well as Correa who has been terrific.”
